Ahead of Tamil Nadu polls, Congress steps up attack on BJP–AIADMK alliance

Shafaqna India: With an eye on the 2026 Assembly elections, the Congress has sought to stitch together a wider political narrative, sharpening its attack on the NDA in Tamil Nadu, reorganising its internal machinery in poll-bound Assam and West Bengal, and welcoming back Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mausam Noor, whose return is being viewed as symbolic rather than decisive.

In Tamil Nadu, Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Sunday launched a frontal attack on the BJP–AIADMK alliance, alleging that the BJP was systematically weakening its ally from within. He accused AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami of allowing the regional party to be reduced to what he described as an outfit remote-controlled by the BJP leadership at the Centre.

Tagore claimed that the AIADMK was heading into what could be its final election in its present form and suggested that Palaniswami might also be its last general secretary, holding him responsible for surrendering the party’s political independence. He also pointed to visible fissures within the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit, saying the rivalry between former state chief K Annamalai and the current president Nainar Nagenthran had become a public spectacle, undermining the party’s credibility.
