Ali Day Celebrated At Aligarh Muslim University; Glowing Tributes Paid To Hazrat Ali (a.s)

Aligarh: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali (a.s) Ali Day was celebrated at Kennedy Hall Auditorium of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

People from different walks of life and faith thronged the venue to celebrate the birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali (a.s).

Islamic scholars, academicians and poets paid glowing tributes and eulogised the awe inspiring character of Hazrat Ali (a.s). Prof Parvez Qamar Rizvi delivered the welcome address.

Prof Mahrukh Mirza, Vice Chancellor, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu, Arabi-Farsi University, Lucknow, who was Chief Guest on the occasion  said that hundreds of titles including Maula-e-Kainat, clearly denotes that Hazrat Ali (a.s)  is not limited to a particular religion, but he continues to be an inspiration to the whole world.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor while addressing on the occasion said that Hazrat Ali’s teachings inspired great scientists and thinkers such as Ibn Sina, Omar Khayyam, and Jabir Ibne Haiyan among others.

He pointed out that followers of Hazrat Ali (a.s) should spend their lives in quest for knowledge.

The guest of honour, Hujjatul Islam Hadi Walipour while stressing on universal brotherhood said “If we will look into the life of Imam Ali (as) then, we will find that it was full of love, peace, tolerance and large heartedness”.

Former Chairman English Department, Professor Farhatullah Khan affirmed that the vision that Hazrat Ali presented in Nahjul Balagha is important even in today’s world.

Maulana Akhtar Abbas Jaun who was the guest speaker said that noble personalities remain unidentified in their times and it is only after the passing away of several generations that people realise the greatness of these personalities.

Prof Ainul Hasan and Syed Shohrat Adeeb recited couplets on the life of Imam Ali (as).

AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof M H Beg also spoke on the occasion. The vote of thanks was given by Prof Abid Ali Khan (Treasurer, Ali Society).

Syed Sajid Hussaini of Ali Society presented the annual report and also conducted the programme with Ashhad Parvez.

Notably earlier in the day an exhibition was held to commemorate the Ali Day and the exhibition was inaugurated by AMU Registrar, Mr Abdul Hamid (IPS). Rare books and manuscripts on Hazrat Ali (a.s) including a handwritten copy of the Holy Quran by Hazrat Ali (a.s) were exhibited.

Dr Amjad Ali (University Librarian) said that more than 200 books in Urdu, Persian, Hindi, English and Arabic on the life and teachings of Hazrat Ali  (a.s) were exhibited in the exhibition.
