Polling in all 126 assembly constituencies in the state was held in a single phase on April 9 with a record turnout of 85.96 per cent of the over 2.50 crore electorate.

Guwahati: AJP’s greenhorn candidate Kunki Chowdhury, who shot to limelight after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma threatened of legal action against her parents over alleged beef consumption, was trailing behind BJP veteran Vijay Kumar Gupta in Guwahati Central constituency, according to the Election Commission. As per official data, Gupta has received 16,892 votes compared to 9,524 votes of Chowdhury, leading the contest by 7,368 votes at the end of the third round of counting. PTI

Guwahati: Most of the ministers in the outgoing BJP-led Assam government are in the lead, as per trends shared by the Election Commission. Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora is leading from Bokakhat constituency by more than 3,000 votes over his nearest Raijor Dal candidate. Bora has secured 4,682 votes against Raijor Dal’s Hari Prasad Saikia, who has bagged 1,440 votes, at the end of the first round of counting out of the total 16 rounds. PTI

Guwahati: All major opposition leaders in Assam, including Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Akhil Gogoi, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Jagadish Bhuyan and Rajen Gohain, were trailing in their respective constituencies, according to Election Commission data on Monday. Congress leader Saikia was trailing by 4,967 votes in Sivasagar district’s Nazira seat. BJP’s Mayur Borgohain secured 11,607 votes after the second round, compared to Saikia’s 6,640. Raijor Dal president and MLA Akhil Gogoi, contesting to retain the Sibsagar seat, was trailing after the first round. He polled 3,262 votes against 5,171 votes secured by BJP’s Kushal Dowari. PTI
Himanta establishes lead of 7,748 votes in Jalukbari

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has established a lead of 7,748 votes over his nearest Congress rival Bidisha Neog in the BJP leader’s attempt to retain the Jalukbari constituency for the sixth consecutive term, EC data said. Sarma has polled 11,821 votes while Neog secured 4,073 votes at the end of the second round of counting. PTI

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was leading in Jalukbari constituency while state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi was trailing behind his BJP rival Hitendranath Goswami in Jorhat. NDA’s alliance partner AGP’s president Atul Bora and working president Keshab Mahanta, both ministers in Sarma’s cabinet, were leading in Bokakhat and Kaliabor, respectively. Former senior Congress leaders Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Borah, who joined the BJP ahead of the polls, were leading in Dispur and Bihpuria constituencies, respectively. Ministers Ranoj Pegu, Pijush Hazarika, Ashok Singhal, Prashanta Phukan and Bimal Borah have also established leads in their respective constituencies of Dhemaji, Jagiroad, Dhekiajuli, Dibrugarh and Tingkhong. NDA ahead in 98 seats in Assam, Congress in 25: EC

Guwahati: The ruling NDA was leading in 98 seats in Assam while the Congress was ahead in 25 constituencies, according to the Election Commission. The EC has released trends for all 126 constituencies in the state, with the BJP leading in 78 while its alliance partners, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) were ahead in 10 seats each. The Congress was leading in 25 seats, and its ally Raijor Dal in one seat, according to the EC. The AIUDF was also leading in two seats, and the CPI(M) in one constituency. AJP’s Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who was earlier leading, is now trailing behind BJP’s Chakradhar Gogoi in Khowang constituency. PTI
