Attendant ‘thrashed’ by staff after complaining about delay in treatment at SKIMS

An attendant of a kidney failure patient was allegedly manhandled by nursing staff at the Emergency ward of SKIMS Soura after he objected to the delay in treatment on Sunday.
The SKIMS administration has ordered an inquiry into the allegations by the attendant.
Tanveer Hussain Pandith of Zadibal area told Kashmir Reader that he was beaten and abused by three male nurses at SKIMS Emergency after he complained about them for refusing to attend the patient he was accompanying.
“They beat me and tore my jacket because I raised the issue of their negligence with the Control Room officials,” he said.
Pandith was accompanying a female patient from Rajouri to the ward who was admitted in a critical condition following some complication. She has been recently diagnosed with renal failure by doctors at SKIMS.
“After she was admitted to the ward, doctors present there advised oxygen therapy and emergency injectable drugs. I requested the nursing staff comprising mostly of males to attend her but they turned deaf ears to my repeated requests as they were probably busy with a known patient.”
“We waited for more than an hour but when my patient’s condition deteriorated I requested them again to attend to her. They again refused and told me to wait. After that I went to the Control Room and complained about them. The in charge sent a staff member with me that infuriated the ward boys and they attacked me,” he narrated.
Following the incident, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan ordered an inquiry in the case.
The attendants have also lodged a complaint with the police about the incident.
“We are yet to register an FIR in the case because we have to take statement from both the sides,” SHO Police Station Zadibal, Shahnawaz Khan told Kashmir Reader.
