Having failed twice earlier to get a crowd big enough for a decent show in Kolkata’s Brigade Ground, the BJP is hoping it will be lucky third time.
PM Narendra Modi is slated to address a rally at the ground on Sunday. Modi last addressed a rally at the ground in April 2019 while campaigning for the Lok sabha elections.
The BJP expected eight lakh people to turn up at the rally, only two lakh attended the event.
However, much water has flown through the Ganges since then. “Don’t forget we secured over 40 per cent votes in the Lok Sabha elections. We are now the biggest challenge before Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee”, Shamik Bhattacharya, West Bengal BJP spokesperson, told The Tribune.
The party is feeling extra pressure owing to the massice rally organised by the Cong-CPM-ISF at Brigade Ground on February 28.
