Shafaqna India: Hundreds of people rallied in Dearborn on Wednesday in support of Lebanon and Palestine against the worsening situation in the Middle East and the Israeli bombing of Lebanon. Speakers at the rally, held at the Veterans Park War Memorial outside the Henry Ford Centennial Library on Michigan Avenue, condemned the Israeli military’s attacks on civilians in Lebanon, which have so far killed more than 700 people.
Speakers criticized the Biden administration, Democratic presidential candidate Kamilla Harris, as well as Republican candidate Donald Trump’s support for Israel.”Biden, Harris and Trump — there’s no difference,” said Osama Sablani, publisher of Arab American News, who spearheaded the event.”You want to expand access to health care,” Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud said, criticizing Democrats. Appreciate and condone the bombing of the facility?”
At the rally, Wayne County Commissioner Sam Bedoun said he spoke by phone with his family in Beirut the first day, including his 88-year-old father, and he feared for his life. “I went through the 1978 Israeli attack in my childhood,” he said. “I saw the F-15s terrorizing the civilian population. I know all too well what the people of South Lebanon and Beirut are going through right now.”
