Detention of SAR Geelani, Ali Geelani called for peaceful protest

by Abbas Adil
Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani today called for peaceful protest for half an hour on March 11 after the Friday prayers against continued imprisonment of S A R Geelani and amalgam secretary general Shabir Ahmad Shah, house detention of provincial president Nayeem Ahmad Khan and invocation of PSA against pro-resistance leaders and activists.
“On the one hand, the attempts are being made to frame Prof S A R Geelani and make him a scapegoat and, on the other hand, the political activities in the state have been completely banned and Hurriyat leaders are being held in illegal detentions. The JNU issue has although completely exposed Delhi in front of the whole world and the registration of sedition charges against the JNU students had also lost its sheen but there are still some apprehensions that the Prof SAR Geelani will be made scapegoat in this case and his detention will be unnecessarily prolonged,” Geelani said in a statement today, adding that “Besides being a Muslim S A R Geelani is also a Kashmiri which is his biggest crime and the communal government in India will try to subject him to the vengeance policy. First time he was tried to implicate in the Indian parliament attack case and now he is being framed in a false and baseless case. The Kashmiri nation will not remain silent over this issue and we will continue to protest till he is released.”
Expressing his dismay over the continuous ‘illegal’ detention of Shabir Ahmad Shah in police station Rajbagh here and house detentionof Nayeem Ahmad Khan at his home, Geelani said, “Dozens of pro-freedom leaders and activists including Masarat Alam Bhat, Ameer Hamzah Shah, Mir Hafizullah, Abdul Gani Bhat, Mehraj-ud-din Rubbani, Mohammad Amin Parray, Nasir Abdullah, Abdul Hameed Parray, Hakeem Showkat, Assadullah Parray, Zubair Ahmad Turray and Mehraj-ud-Din Nandah are in illegal confinement.
