Agra: Union Minister for Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday afternoon launched half-an-hour free Wi-Fi Internet facility in the Taj Mahal complex.

The launch of free half-an- hour Wi-Fi in the 17th century monument of love will help the tourists to stay connected with the world without paying for it for the set time.

Anyone wishing to remain logged in for more than half-an-hour can do so by paying Rs.30 an hour.

The launch got a mixed response with tourism industry leaders welcoming the the new facility but some conservationists feel the Internet would prevent many tourists from appreciating the beauty of the monument.

BSNL has made special arrangements to introduce the facility with support from Quadgen, a Bengaluru-based company.

Meanwhile introducing Wi-Fi at the Fathepur Sikri complex is also on the cards. Agra Cantt railway station is already Wi-Fi enabled.

Taj Mahal remains India’s famous tourist spot with six million people visiting the monument in 2014.
