New Delhi: Amid the controversy over the issuance of passport to Hurriyat (M) leader Syed Ali Geelani, ministry of external affairs on Thursday said the passport application of Geelani cannot be processed in its present form as its application is incomplete.

The ministry said that Geelani had neither paid the requisite fees nor submitted his biometric details and photographs.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar, meanwhile, said Geelani will have to write “Indian” in the nationality column to apply for the passport.

Earlier Geelani had submitted an online application for a passport so he could visit his ailing daughter in Saudi Arabia but had so far failed to turn up at the Srinagar Passport Office to give his biometric data.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti days before said that state government would not create any hurdle in issuance of passport to separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani adding that an ailing daughter must be allowed to meet his father.

“There is no say of politics over this issue. A daughter who is in ailing condition should be given a chance to meet his father. I don’t see any issue if such a measure is taken,” Mehbooba said.
