Shafaqna India: A social media message falsely claiming a bomb was placed on Air India’s Delhi-Indore-Mumbai flight was posted Tuesday, prompting an investigation by Indore police, who confirmed it as a hoax on Wednesday.
The threat, stating a pipe bomb was aboard flight AI 636, was posted on X at 5:08 pm, shortly after the flight had departed Indore for Mumbai at 4:38 pm. Acting on a complaint from a local airline official, Indore police registered a case against the unknown individual responsible under section 351 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which covers criminal intimidation by concealing identity.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinod Kumar Meena confirmed the message was fake and said further investigation is ongoing.
This incident adds to over 100 similar bomb threats received by Indian airlines recently, which have affected over 510 flights, with most threats being issued through social media.
