Imam Assaulted Inside Mosque in Karnataka’s Mangalore, Police Register Case

A video has gone viral claiming that an Imam of a mosque has been assaulted by a group of unidentified assailants in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.  The incident took place in the Farangipete area of Mangalore district in Karnataka.

The video, a CCTV clip, was first shared by a journalist, Imran Khan, on his Twitter account showing two men jumping a wall as they come out through a door of the mosque. The Imam identified as Mushtaq has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Mangalore Police has filed a case against three unnamed people and launched an investigation into the incident.

Speaking to Clarion India, Station House Officer, Farangipete, said that a case under sections 448 (Punishment for house-trespass), 322 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. “We have not been able to identify the suspected assailants yet. We have only CCTV footage yet,” the SHO said, adding that the cause of the attack is being ascertained.
