India-Pakistan Rice Export Competition Intensifies as Both Lift Trade Restrictions

Shafaqna India: Global rice prices fell on Monday after India and Pakistan lifted restrictions on rice exports.

On Saturday, India lifted its year-long ban on the export of non-Basmati white rice due to an increased 2024 crop yield that has boosted domestic reserves.

This came a day after Pakistan announced the removal of its minimum export price (MEP) for all rice varieties. The MEP, in place since 2023, had been set at $1,300 per metric tonne for Basmati rice and $550 for non-Basmati rice.
