Doctors have carried out 447 surgeries on pellet and bullet injured victims at twin hospitals of Srinagar in past 10 days.
“Twenty-three neurosurgeries, 143 eye surgeries, 2 ENT, 74 orthopedic and 205 general surgeries have been conducted on pellet and bullet injured persons at SMHS and Bone and Joint hospitals in last 10 days,” Principal, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, Dr Kaiser Ahmed told Rising Kashmir.
Dr Kaiser said 393 wounded persons, mostly with pellet injuries, have been admitted in SMHS hospital in past 10 days while as 70 patients, mostly with bullet injuries, have been admitted in Bone and Joint hospital during this time.
“Presently there are 93 bullet and pellet-hit patients admitted in SMHS and 17 are admitted in B&J hospital presently. Rest of the injured persons have been discharged from both hospitals,” he said.
Dr Kaiser said out of over 100 pellet injured patients, one has lost his vision in both eyes, 10 in one eye.
“It will take 4-6 weeks to be sure about the status of many other pellet injured persons who were hit in their eyes. We are trying our best so that they can regain maximum eyesight,” he said.
Dr Kaiser said the flow of injured persons has dropped as only eight injured persons were admitted in SMHS hospital on Monday.
He said most of the patients admitted in B&J hospital had suffered compound factures.
“We can give SOPs to the whole world now given the experience we have treating such patients,” he said.
Stating that there is no shortage of any life saving or any other drug at SMHS hospital, he said: “We don’t face any shortage of medicines as we already had enough supplies stocked.”
Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital, Dr Nazir Chowdary said out of the injured admitted in the hospital, six succumbed to their bullet injuries in last 10 days.
“We received eight injured persons on Monday and out of them six have been discharged. Two of them were hurt by beatings. Though today we have not received any injured so far, but we have been mostly receiving the injured now during evening time from past few days,” he said.
