Shafaqna India:At least 105 people have been killed and 359 injured in Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon, as reported by the country’s Health Ministry.
The highest casualties occurred in the South Governorate, where 48 individuals died and 168 were injured in Ain Al-Delb and Tyre. These attacks followed an airstrike on Beirut’s densely populated southern suburbs that killed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, a group involved in cross-border conflicts with Israel for nearly a year.
Hezbollah has claimed to support Hamas militants in Gaza, who launched attacks on Israel on October 7, igniting the current war in the region. As Israel shifted its focus from Gaza to Lebanon, the violence escalated, resulting in hundreds of deaths since last Monday, marking one of the deadliest periods since Lebanon’s civil war.
The Health Ministry also reported deadly air raids near the southern city of Sidon, with additional casualties in the east and around Beirut. Significant damage was inflicted on Kana hospital in the south, and the Baalbek-Hermel region in eastern Lebanon saw 33 fatalities and 97 injuries.
Israeli officials stated that their intensified strikes aim to target Hezbollah operatives and facilities, alleging that the group uses civilians as “human shields.” The bombardments have destroyed residential buildings and public infrastructure, worsening the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.
