Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today called upon New Delhi to revoke AFSPA and start the process of demilitarization in Kashmir.
Addressing a Friday gathering at historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz said “By taking support from laws like AFSPA, thousands of innocent Kashmiri have been killed and government forces have been involved in bloodshed in Kashmir.”
“By using military might, our political emotions and aspiration can’t be suppressed and we can’t be forced to retreat from pursuing our political rights,” Hurriyat (M) said.
“International human rights organizations have already termed draconian laws like AFSPA as anti-human and undemocratic. Amnesty International has several times called for revocation of AFSPA from Kashmir. It is highly unfortunate the law in Kashmir has been imposed to legalize the crimes of army and para-military forces,” he said.
Mirwaiz said that world is today observing International Week of Disappeared and in Kashmir more than 9500 people have been subjected to enforced disappearance by the State.
He questioned the silence of the Indian political parties, civil society groups over this matter.
However Mirwaiz asked the international community to raise its concern over the injustice and oppression in Kashmir.
