Shafaqna India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Singapore on Wednesday, following an invitation from his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, to “deepen the strategic partnership” between the two countries after concluding his visit to Brunei.
During this two-day visit—his fifth official trip to Singapore—Modi will engage with three generations of Singapore’s leadership, according to officials in New Delhi.
On Thursday, the Prime Minister will receive an official welcome at the Parliament House and will meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
This visit follows shortly after Lawrence Wong took office and Modi began his third term as Prime Minister.
Before departing, Modi posted on X: “I look forward to my discussions to deepen our strategic partnership with Singapore, particularly in new and emerging areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalisation, and sustainable development.”
Accompanied by Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other government officials, Modi, who last visited Singapore in 2018, aims to strengthen bilateral ties.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, “The leaders will review the progress of the strategic partnership between India and Singapore and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.”
Modi will also meet with Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, and will be hosted for separate meals by Wong and Lee.
Additionally, Modi is set to meet Singaporean business leaders and engage with members of the country’s semiconductor ecosystem. The visit aims to build synergies between the semiconductor industries of both nations. The two leaders will visit a semiconductor manufacturing facility, and MoUs will be signed for cooperation in manpower skilling in this sector, officials noted.
This collaboration will enhance skills and opportunities for Indian youth through training, recruitment, and skilling centres established by Singaporean firms, they added.
