No decision yet over whether to continue alliance with BJP or break it: PDP

by Abbas Adil

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday nullified the reports of any breakthrough in the process of new government formation, maintaining that the party has authorised its chief Mehbooba Mufti to take final call.
PDP’s general secretary Nizam-ud-din Bhat told KNS that so far there has been no decision taken over the present deadlock.
“Once the decision is taken by the party president, it will be known to all. So far there has been no breakthrough,” Bhat told KNS.
Bhat, who is one of the PDP’s founding members, said both the PDP and party legislators have authorised Mehbooba Mufti- the PDP chief to take final call over whether to continue the alliance or break it. “We have neither decided to break the alliance not resolved to continue it. I can only tell you that there has been no breakthrough in the present deadlock,” Bhat said.
Pertinently, as the GOI is not announcing any Confidence Building Measures as sought by the Peoples Democratic Party to create atmosphere for re-alliance with BJP, Mehbooba Mufti on Friday hardened her stand stating her father always preferred principles over power and it will remain a guiding code for her.
She had indicated that she wouldn’t mind going back to people. Mehbooba said her father had left no assets in property but the legacy of more than half a century of public service that he established is enough to give democracy its real competitive edge. She added that Mufti’s vision was a roadmap for the party.
