Peace March in Aligarh in Solidarity with Sheikh Zakzaky

by Abbas Adil

The students of Aligarh Muslim University organised a peace march from AMU Jama Masjid to University Circle after the Friday prayers to condemn the brutal massacre of thousands of innocent Nigerians by the Nigerian Army.

The Nigerian Army had shot thousands of innocent Nigerians in the city of Zaria and arrested the leader of Islamic movement Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky two days before.

Maulana Taqi Agha of Hyderabad addressed the huge gathering at the University Circle. Condemning the heinous crime committed by the Nigerian Army, he said in his speech, “Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki and his movement had been a strong voice against oppression all over the world. He had always condemned the terror outfits like Boko Haram and ISIS and their terrorist activities. A crackdown by the Nigerian Army on such a noble personality and his followers is condemnable and shameful”

We strongly condemn this oppression by the Nigerian Army and appeal to the Nigerian Government to act responsibly and safeguard the rights of its citizen” said a participant.

The students presented a Memorandum to the Nigerian High commission. An appeal was made to the Nigerian Government by the students to:
