Shafaqna India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday for extensive talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, following a period of tension last year.
Muizzu arrived in India on Sunday for a four-day visit. The two leaders held discussions at Hyderabad House, with a focus on deepening the India-Maldives partnership. Muizzu was earlier welcomed with a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan by President Droupadi Murmu, where he received a tri-services guard of honor before paying respects at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Rajghat.
This is Muizzu’s first official visit to India since taking office in November. Despite initial tensions due to his “India out” campaign and pro-China stance, Muizzu has moderated his position, including removing ministers critical of India. India, in turn, has extended crucial financial assistance, including the extension of a $50 million Treasury Bill to support the Maldivian government amid its economic challenges.
