Shafaqna India: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei to discuss a range of topics, including the expansion of trade ties, commercial connections, and people-to-people exchanges.
Modi, the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Brunei on a bilateral trip, was greeted by Sultan Bolkiah and his close family members at Istana Nurul Iman, the Sultan’s official residence and the seat of the Brunei government.
“Delighted to meet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Our talks covered a wide range of issues and explored ways to further strengthen bilateral relations. We are committed to expanding trade ties, commercial connections, and people-to-people exchanges,” Modi posted on X.
Modi’s visit marks a significant milestone in the 40-year diplomatic relationship between India and Brunei, characterized by mutual respect and understanding on bilateral and multilateral issues, according to officials.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also posted on X, “Building stronger India-Brunei relations. PM @narendramodi received a warm welcome at Istana Nurul Iman by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and his close family. Brunei is a key partner in India’s ‘Act East’ Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision,” along with photos of the event.
Ahead of the visit, the MEA highlighted that India and Brunei share historical, cultural, and traditional ties that have lasted over a millennium.
