Shafaqna India: Russia launched dozens of missiles across cities in Ukraine on Monday in a devastating onslaught that claimed the lives of at least 24 people and severely damaged a children’s hospital in Kyiv. The attack, which occurred during daylight hours, prompted a frantic rescue effort as volunteers, doctors, and emergency responders sifted through the wreckage of Okhmatdyt pediatric hospital in search of survivors.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russian forces targeted more than 40 missiles at several major civilian centers, primarily in southern and eastern Ukraine, in addition to Kyiv. The strikes coincided with Zelensky’s visit to Warsaw en route to a NATO summit in Washington, where he sought increased military support from allied nations.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes as air raid sirens blared and explosions rocked the capital, sending debris from missile impacts across the city. Natalia Svidler, who was in the hospital with her young son at the time of the attack, recounted the terrifying moments when the basement they sought shelter in was partially collapsed by the blast.

The assault also caused extensive damage to residential buildings and infrastructure in Kyiv, including electrical substations critical for energy supply. Ukrainian officials reported multiple casualties and significant destruction, underscoring the widespread impact of Russia’s continued aerial bombardment.

Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for international condemnation and action against Russia, stressing that such attacks must be met with a robust response. He reiterated appeals for enhanced air defense systems from Ukraine’s allies to mitigate the threat posed by Russian military operations.

The Kremlin has not immediately commented on the attacks, maintaining that its military operations do not intentionally target civilian areas. However, Ukrainian officials and international observers condemned the strikes as acts of terror that demand accountability and decisive international action.
