Shafaqna India: On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that two Russian ballistic missiles struck an educational facility and a nearby hospital in Poltava, a city in central-eastern Ukraine. The attack resulted in at least 51 fatalities and injured 180 others.
Poltava, located about 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the Russian border and roughly 350 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Kyiv, was hit in what appears to be one of the deadliest Russian strikes since the conflict began over 900 days ago on February 24, 2022.
Zelenskyy shared in a video on his Telegram channel that one building of the Institute of Communications was partially destroyed, trapping people under the rubble. Many were rescued, and all necessary services are engaged in the ongoing rescue efforts. Zelenskyy has ordered a thorough and prompt investigation into the incident.
According to Ukraine’s Defence Ministry, the missiles struck shortly after an air raid alert was issued, catching many people on their way to bomb shelters. The strike has been described as “barbaric.” Rescue crews managed to save 25 individuals, including 11 who were extricated from the debris.
