Saffron ‘AAP’surge in Delhi, BJP set to return to power after 27 years

Shafaqna India: As the counting for the Delhi Assembly elections begins, early trends indicate a mixed outcome for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). While Arvind Kejriwal, the party’s National Convenor, is leading from the New Delhi constituency, prominent AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Atishi and Manish Sisodia, are trailing in their respective seats.

Arvind Kejriwal was initially behind Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma in New Delhi but has now surged ahead in the latest updates.

In contrast, Manish Sisodia, former Delhi Education Minister, is lagging in Jangpura, and Atishi is trailing BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji.

However, AAP’s fortunes are brighter in some constituencies. Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj is leading in Greater Kailash, while Cabinet colleague Gopal Rai is ahead in Babarpur. Senior AAP leader Durgesh Pathak, contesting from Rajinder Nagar, is also maintaining a lead.

Despite these gains, other prominent AAP leaders are facing tough challenges. Amanatullah Khan, representing Okhla, and Satyendar Jain, contesting from Shakur Basti, are both behind in their respective constituencies. Avadh Ojha, a recent AAP recruit contesting from Patparganj, is also trailing, as is Somnath Bharti from Malviya Nagar.

The election, held on February 5, serves as a significant showdown between the AAP’s “Delhi model” of governance and the BJP’s fierce campaign, which has centered on corruption allegations against AAP leadership. The outcome of this closely watched battle will shape the future political landscape of Delhi.
