Lucknow, December 5

Twenty-year-old Sumit killed by a gunshot on Monday was part of the violent mob and a named accused in the police FIR, has been awarded a compensation for Rs 10 lakh by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Presiding over a high-level law and order review meeting at his official residence late last night, the CM announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for Sumit’s family from the chief minister’s relief fund.

Sumit, son of Amarjit of Chigrawati village under Syana Police station of Bulandshahr, is listed as accused number 16 in the second FIR (FIR no. 0583) registered by sub inspector Subhash Chand on Tuesday at 2.51 pm.

Ironically, Sumit’s postmortem report confirms that he was hit by a bullet from a 0.32 bore weapon, the same bore, which killed Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh.

This makes it clear that Sumit, part of the violent mob was killed in cross firing by the mob itself as the police on the spot was using 303 bore rifles, revealed police sources present on the spot.

A two-minute 48 second video clipping going viral on the social media shows that the crowd become more hostile shouting for attacking the police  after Sumit was hit by bullet.

Youth are seen surrounding him as he limps holding his chest and his shirt bloodied.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a police officer posted in Bulandshahr expressed his unhappiness over this development.

He said the decision to treat martyred Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and the accused Sumit at the same level will demoralise the police force.

Meanwhile, the press release of the law and order review meeting, which continued till midnight speaks more of chief minister’s seriousness to curb incidents of cow slaughter and take action against all those found guilty of it than investigating the murder of the police officer.

Describing it as a part of a bigger “conspiracy”, CM Yogi said that those directly or indirectly involved with cow slaughter should be strictly punished.

The press note also highlights that by an order of March 19, 2007, all illegal slaughter houses were closed down. Taking note of the Bulandshahr incident CM Yogi during the meeting instructed all district magistrates and police chiefs to bring to an end such illegal cow slaughtering at the district level as it is a collective responsibility.

He instructed the chief secretary and DGP to strictly enforce this at the district level and run a campaign and take legal action against those conspiring to vitiate the atmosphere.

However, the press release is silent about the CM’s instructions if any on the investigation of the case of the Syana Station Officer Subodh Kumar Singh.

Four Bajrang Dal activists have already been arrested in the case. The main culprit Bajrang Dal district coordinator Yogesh Raj is still absconding, while one accused has been awarded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh by the state government.
