Shafaqna India: Communal tensions flared up in Jainoor mandal of Asifabad district on Wednesday, September 4, after a mob of around 2,000 people began attacking properties belonging to the Muslim community. The violence was triggered by an incident involving an auto-rickshaw driver accused of sexually assaulting a tribal woman in the district.

Videos circulating on social media show a mob freely targeting shops in the market, with no local law enforcement visible in that part of Asifabad district. The alleged perpetrator, an auto-rickshaw driver from the Muslim community, reportedly assaulted a tribal woman last week.

In response to the incident, a bandh was called for Wednesday. Subsequently, a large mob entered the village and began attacking Muslim-owned properties in Jainoor.

Reports suggest that the violence was supported by some local right-wing organization leaders. Although Asifabad police arrived at the scene, they were initially unable to control the situation due to the sheer size of the crowd. Reinforcements were dispatched from neighboring mandals and headquarters to assist the local police. Senior police officials from Asifabad and the state are en route to the affected areas to oversee the security measures.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi appealed for peace, emphasizing that no one should take the law into their own hands.
