Shafaqna India: Hyderabad Member of Parliament and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi recently made a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In a rally held in Khilwat, Owaisi indirectly urged AIMIM supporters in constituencies where the party is not contesting to vote for Congress candidates. His aim was clear: to thwart the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hold on power.
Owaisi’s speech tactfully avoided directly mentioning Congress or specific candidates but left strong hints for his followers. He referred to Congress candidates in Secunderabad, Nizamabad, and Chevella, using descriptive terms like “fat man,” “lots of white hair,” and “thin one.” This indirect endorsement was part of his larger strategy to unite anti-BJP forces and ensure BJP’s defeat in key constituencies.
The United Muslim Forum (UMF) also played a crucial role by endorsing Owaisi’s re-election bid in Hyderabad and supporting Congress in the remaining 16 constituencies in Telangana. Their decision was motivated by a desire to counter communal forces and bolster a national-level party in the Lok Sabha polls.
This move by Owaisi and the UMF reflects a strategic alliance aimed at maximizing the impact of Muslim voters in Telangana. With all 17 parliamentary seats in the state up for grabs, this election is pivotal in shaping the political landscape. In the previous 2019 elections, BRS, BJP, Congress, and AIMIM secured seats, underlining the competitive dynamics that Owaisi and his allies are navigating.
As Telangana gears up for polls on May 13, the alliances and endorsements signal a nuanced political strategy focused on countering the BJP’s influence and supporting candidates aligned with the anti-BJP sentiment. Owaisi’s indirect appeal underscores the complexity and strategic calculations involved in electoral politics, especially in a region with diverse political affiliations and interests.
