The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has decided not to participate in the Lok Sabha seat-sharing meeting with the Congress’s I.N.D.I.A. alliance. While the TMC had initially spoken about leaving two seats for the ally, there is speculation that the Congress demanded nine to 12 seats, a proposal deemed too low by the TMC.
The Congress has not communicated a specific number to the TMC, and the latter sees no meaning in holding a meeting at the national alliance committee level. TMC sources suggest that discussions will now be held at the highest level, and only Mamata Banerjee can decide on increasing the number of seats for the Congress. The TMC has also expressed its seat preferences in Meghalaya and Assam for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
