US urges nationals to leave as Iranian airspace partially opened

The US State Department has urged American nationals in Iran to leave the country, as its airspace has partially opened.

US citizens have been urged to consult with commercial carriers for information on flights and monitor local media for updates. Additionally, citizens can depart by land to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkiye and Turkmenistan, while travelling to Afghanistan and Iraq has been discouraged.

“Be aware that the Iranian government may prevent US citizens from departing or charge an ‘exit fee’ for departures from Iran,” the State Department has said on X, adding that dual nationals with Iranian citizenship must travel on their Iranian passport.
