Srinagar: Thousands of Kashmiri Shia Muslims on Monday took out procession on the occasion of Chehlum (the 40th day of martyrdom of Imam Hussain at Karbala). The procession originated from Imambargah Bagwanpora at 4 pm and passed through androon e mohalla to Imam bargah bagwanpora Srinagar.
Before the procession which was attended by thousands of mourners, Islamic Scholare and Zakireen addressed a majlis highlighting the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. The procession included mourners draped in black clothes and members of several anjumans. The anjumans were reciting nauhas, marsiyas commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his associates in Karbala. Several taziyas and alams also accompanied the procession.
Heavy security arrangements and necessary traffic diversions were made for smooth passage of the procession.
