Shafaqna India: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has given his approval to “The Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Education Institutions (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026”, which paves the way for stricter regulation of fee implemented by all schools in the state.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced this today, while sharing the approval received from the Governor. “My Government will not allow education to be turned into a commercial enterprise. The AAP government is duty-bound to ensure that the common man is not unnecessarily financially burdened,” he said, adding that school education should be affordable for all.
With the enactment of this law, parents of children studying in private unaided schools will be protected from arbitrary increase in fees. It will also ensure transparency in the functioning of the educational institutions. Under the new legal provisions, private unaided schools will not be allowed to increase annual fees and associated charges, by more than five per cent in an academic year, without prior approval of the competent authority.
This also provides relief to parents by mandating that institutions which have increased fees beyond the prescribed limits, may be directed to refund the excess amount collected from students.
